Last week was taxing. County budget sessions began Tuesday the 8th and continued through the 10th. As secretary to the county council by statute I am required to attend, assist and advise. I’m pleased the Prosecutor and Courts faired well, as did Auditing. And there were no lay-offs.
Thursday evening I attended a Center for Justice and Mediation (CJAM) fundraiser held at the home of Paige and Christian Freitag. You can learn more about CJAM at:
Friday, September 11th, I attended the 911 Memorial Ceremony at City Hall. Several people spoke including the mayor, but the remarks of Tom Hanify, President of the Professional Firefighters Union of Indiana, were the most moving to me. Hanify knew several of the firefighters who died in the terrorist attacks in NY and I felt privileged to have heard the stories he shared.
Yesterday, the children and I lunched at the Turkuaz Café on Third Street, before stopping by Opie Taylors to say hello to the local Saturday Dem gathering.
Today, I took Paige and Ethan to the Indianapolis Children’s Museum. We saw the amazing new Egyptian exhibit!

Of particular interest to me was the inclusion of modern Egyptian culture in the exhibit-the customs, religions and lifestyles of today. In a marvelous interactive room, Indiana children can run a day in the shoes of a child from Cairo—touch their toys, see their homes, speak their language and laugh and play. Egypt is predominantly Muslim and the original ancient Egyptian religion has all but disappeared.
Tomorrow, Regina and I are having lunch with the mayor, and there is another council meeting at 5.
